Too busy to exercise your dog? Treadmill training is your answer!
About the Class
All dogs need daily physical and mental exercise, but it is sometimes difficult to find time in your busy schedule to take your dog for an hour long walk. Treadmill training allows you to solve that problem. We will teach you and your dog to work comfortably and safely on a treadmill.
Benefits of
Treadmill Training
1.

2. Mental exercise
3. Ability to exercise your dog any time, no matter the weather - in the rain, in the dark, in the cold, in the lightning
4. Great for northern breeds (like Siberian Huskies & Alaskan Malamutes) who cannot safely exercise outside in Florida's hot summers

What You Will Need
1. A treadmill that your dog will fit on. The treadmill should be at least one foot longer than your dog. If you do not have a treadmill, but intend on purchasing one, let us help you determine the appropriate size for your dog.
2. A 4' to 6' flat leash. No retractable leashes, double-handled leashes, or chain leashes.
3. A collar that fits your dog. No head halters or harnesses of any kind.
4. Your dog's favorite treats.
Training Preparation
1. NEVER attempt to put your dog on the treadmill. Improper introduction to the treadmill can set training back weeks - even months - and can cause injury.
2. Dogs can watch people run on the treadmill, or even other dogs who are experienced and comfortable on the treadmill. NEVER turn the treadmill on while no one is on it and allow your dog to investigate.
3. Do not act excited or encourage your dog to get on the treadmill. This can cause your dog to become overexcited when working around the treadmill, causing a lack of focus and ultimately causing injury.
4. Do not permit barking at or biting at the treadmill.
5. If the dog is startled by the treadmill at first, this is normal. Darting away and being frantic, however, is not. Do not continue to run the treadmill at this point and we will work on it during training.
